Fraudulent scheme in Sierra de Bahoruco National Park exposed.
Fuente: dominicantoday.Santo Domingo.- The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo UASD and the Coalition for the Defense of Protected Areas have raised concerns about a purported scheme where unidentified individuals seek billions of pesos in compensation from the State by falsely claiming ownership of 70% of the lands within the Sierra de Bahoruco National Park. In a press conference at the UASD, led by Luis Carvajal, the president of the UASD Environmental Commission, and Eleuterio MartÃnez, the president of the Academy of Sciences of the Dominican Republic, the alarming issue was brought to light. Carvajal stressed that despite the Sectoral Law on Protected Areas allowing fair compensation for legitimate owners, recent claims lack refined property rights.
